Next Blog Please

Ever hit that little button at the top of the page that says "Next Blog"? You should, it's an adventure waiting to happen. I've come across some of the most interesting stuff. I've caught myself reading about people and situations from all over the world. Some of the blogs have me laughing and rolling on the floor with their witty stories of mishap and observation. I've been reduced to tears as I read of someone's struggle for life or a family trying to find a new normal after loosing a loved one. Some blogs captivate me with their pictures alone, others with their views of the world. A recent blogger caught my attention with his personal art work posted to view even though it was in a language I didn't understand. Another sent me scrambling to the kitchen in search of something yummy to eat after reading her blog on cooking. People are interesting and everyone has a voice that should be heard. Anytime I begin to feel like the world should revolve ...

Weight Loss Drama

I am a bit frustrated with myself. I went yesterday to weigh in at The Weight Loss Zone knowing that I might not have good results due to the fact that I've been splurging. What I mean by splurging is eating and drinking whatever I want since school let out. Not Good! I gained almost 5 pounds... I thought since I'd been playing tennis a couple of times a week and doing other exercise that I would have stayed the same. This was a reality check. Obviously, it was the wake up call I needed too. You know what, because of my lack of discipline in my diet my colon has been acting up for a while too. Then, with the excitement of the job interview, it really yelled at me to straighten up. Time to get my act together again. I am so disappointed in myself for allowing all the hard work to be undone in just a month. Maybe this was the kick in the rear I needed to stay strong and keep to diet plan. The funny thing is, it's not even a hard plan to follow! It's very realistic...

The Craziness of it All!

Until yesterday, I had not made the time to blog and I had NO IDEA how much I've missed it. Writing for me is a major outlet. I tend to internalize everything and writing helps me get a clear picture of all the craziness in life. Ever since I can remember I've been journaling. I actually remember my very first diary. I was in 4th grade and was given a little red book with a lock on it for my birthday. I can still feel the excitement that coursed through my body as I open the wrapping to reveal the shiny little gold letters of "My Diary" engraved on the front cover. I think I filled the pages of that little book up with in the first 6 months. It was the beginning of my desire to write. I have always loved to read. I can't remember not being surrounded by books. I come from a long line of readers. My love of words was given to me by my mother. She is a voracious reader! She is also a dang good writer. I don't know if she journals, but I do know, she had some...

X Factor continued...

Yes, I realize it's been almost a month since Katy and I went to the X Factor auditions...Sorry about that. Craziness is all I can blame it on... So, the X Factor wasn't looking for someone like Katy. :( She is not your basic cookie cutter pop diva so she did not fit the mold. What I prefer to say is: Katy is not looking for the X Factor type venue. She is an AMAZING singer that I would liken to Ella Fitzgerald or Adelle, not Brittany Spears or Katy Perry. The trip was very important in so many ways. Katy did great in her audition and more importantly felt great about her audition. She said she wouldn't change anything about it except for maybe a judge who could appreciate her talent. I watched Katy as she contemplated  her music choices for the audition and was completely blown away by the amount of soul that comes out when she just rehearses! Simon--you missed out on an incredibly talented young woman! Katy was born to sing. Period. On our way to Dallas for the aud...

X FACTOR!!!

Watch out Simon, Katy's gonna show you what's what! My sweet friend Katy, a voice teacher in Amarillo, is spreading her wings this week! She is trying out for Simon Cowell, of American Idol fame, new tv show The X Factor. I am so impressed by her talent and her bravery. You couldn't pay me a million dollars to do this! So, tomorrow we head to the convention center in downtown Dallas to wait in line to register. I must be a good friend because we will be getting in line bright and early at 6 am! I'm bringing my camera in order to document this experience so i will do updates with photos. In reading through the regulations, we came across the Do Not Bring List... My top favorites are: No tents. No air mattresses. This is the best one: No swords of any kind forged or carved from any of the middle or modern ages. Obviously, this has been an issue in the past. Have I said how excited I am? I am so stinkin' excited! I am totall...

Austin City Limits

This past weekend we left the goats and dogs behind and headed to Austin to celebrate my mom-n-law's 65th birthday. Oh, she many not want her age exposed...sorry, Carlie... Anyway, it was a great time! We had a fun filled weekend celebrating a fabulous woman! MAN BITES DOG Tom, Jeremiah, Shannon THE GREEK DOG yummmmmmy! The first thing we did was head to Man Bites Dog for some good gourmet hot dog eats. Man Bites Dog is a food trailer in Austin owned and operated by my brother-n-law's brother-n-law. Confused yet? Shannon's sister's husband's sister's husband, Jeremiah. There, still confused? So Jeremiah is fixing to open a restaurant because he's been so successful with the trailer. He's a sharp guy and seems to really know his stuff. We are praying and hoping for his success in this new venture. All you Austin-ites, get out there and try MAN BITES DOG!! Restaurant location should be open in the next week or so. HYATT POOL VIEW Next we hea...

Ready, Set, Goat...

Yep- I said GOAT! You never know what's going to take place in this Burdett house... Over Easter we took a trip to Oklahoma City and came home with, of all things, a goat. If you know me at all, you know I have a penchant for all of God's creatures. Goats are no exception. I have to say that I am head over heels for this furry thing! We came across this Pygmy goat, which Erik named "Scape", at the petting zoo in the theme park. They were selling the little guys and of course, I felt like they needed to be rescued. Since I couldn't have all of the babies, we took this one. SHANNON AND SCAPE GOAT This was not a well thought out plan. Once we left the theme park, we realized we had to somehow sneak this goat into our hotel and find him some hay. A quick trip to PetSmart solved part of the problem problem, now to get the goat into the hotel. Armed with a dog kennel and rabbit hay, we headed to our hotel in Bricktown. Do you remember the scene in Sweet Home Alab...
