the first of the lasts

I love summer because we just let routine fly out the window. Structure is not my forte but I do miss it after a while. I am a party waiting to happen and love to go where ever the wind blows when school is out. This worries me as I wonder what will become of me when the boys leave home. I may become completely useless...

But now summer is coming to an end and with it I need to say farewell to the bad habits I've picked up. the last 3 months. This week will start the First Of The Lasts. I believe it will take every day of the next seven days and every hour of the 24 in a day to reprogram myself...

My house looks like a tornado hit it. The pantry and fridge are full of  stale potato chips, half empty cereal boxes and old take out containers. I can barely step into my closet and I have a suitcase still full of dirty clothes from a road trip over a week ago sitting on the bedroom floor.  I'm tired of making excuses for my laziness. I'm quite embarrassed by my lack of motivation to get things back on track.

Where to start? Maybe going to bed at a decent hour and getting up early? Maybe doing laundry and housework if I still remember how? How about cooking a real meal for a change, not just heating up a frozen pizza?

The Lasts will begin as of today, August 8th, 2010.

I will stop--
  • Staying up past midnight and sleeping past 8 am.
  • Missing my work outs.
  • Splurging on junk food and sodas.
  • Drinking adult beverages on the weekdays.
  • Putting off laundry and only doing loads of undies when in dire need.
  • Sitting in the recliner avoiding the real world and responsibilities.
  • Procrastinating about meals and grocery shopping.
  • Stopping projects halfway through and starting another.
Now to replace these Lasts with some Firsts of Good Habits.

I will start--
  • Going to bed by 11 pm and getting up between 7 & 8 am.
  • Making work outs a priority.
  • Eating healthy and drinking lots of water.
  • Keeping the adult bevs as a special treat for the weekends.
  • Doing my chores such as laundry on a regular basis again.
  • Facing the day head on and taking responsibilities seriously again.
  • Planning meals and shopping accordingly.
  • Finish something before moving on to the next.
So now I must get the day planner out and get down to business. My free spirit needs to be reigned in a bit. My kids probably feel older than their mother right now. But never fear- I am returning as the  matriarch of the family. Our house will come to order now.

Today I will--

  • Hit the gym.
  • Start laundry.
  • REALLY clean the kitchen and de gunk the fridge and pantry. (maybe I'll find what stinks...)
  • Attempt to make a dent in my closet.
  • Go to bed before midnight.
Geeze, I'm already tired and feeling overwhelmed. But I CAN do this...right?

It's going to be a tough week. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated.

  1. I'm ready for my kids to have LESS free time. Is that terrible? Yes, I'm longing for the structure of our school days! And ready to have a baby!
